Studio Policies

1. Materials: Please bring a notebook or notepad to record weekly assignments. This notebook will always have the date of your student’s next lesson at the top right. Please have your student bring all books, notebook and materials to every lesson. I suggest getting a small tote or bag to keep everything in. I will recommend materials for your student that will be available on Amazon or any local music store.

2. Practice: Goal oriented practice is suggested. Instead of practicing for a set amount of time, encourage your student to play each song 3 or more times each day. The best musicians are those who establish good practice skills early on. This is something every new musician needs help with. Practice with your student while they establish these habits, You can let them teach you! Learning how to manage practice time is just as important as learning how to play the instrument.

3. Lesson Scheduling: Each month includes three to four lessons along with a week off. You are not charged for off-weeks, but make-up lessons can occasionally be scheduled during this time. As long as payments are made on or before the first lesson, your appointment time will be reserved. My entire studio schedule will be reset after the last week of school and the last week of summer break. You are welcome to choose a 30, 45 or 60 minute time slot that is scheduled weekly.

4. Missed Lessons: You must sign up for the entire month to keep your lesson time. This consistency is necessary for a quality learning experience. Lessons can be rescheduled but only if at least 24 hours notice given or in the event of sickness or a family emergency. Lessons will not be rescheduled or refunded if proper notice is not given.

5. Payment: My usual lesson rate is $40/hour, but I am offering an ongoing discount at $32/hour because my son will be with me during some lessons. He is happy to watch lessons (or hopefully nap!), but if your student finds this distracting please let me know. Payment for the entire month is due by the first lesson of the month. You will receive a bill for the next payment at the last lesson paid.

6.Parking: If your appointment time ends before 5pm, you are welcome to park in the driveway. If after 5pm, please only park on the left side of the driveway. Please avoid parking in front of our neighbors' homes. You are always welcome to stay for lessons or drop your student off and pick up at the end. If choosing to drop off, please pick up on time as lessons run back to back.

7. Lesson Termination: If your family chooses to end lessons, notice must be given at least 30 days in advance. Regular appointments terminated in less than 30 days will still be billed for the upcoming month. The best plan is to let me know during your tuition payment that you will not be continuing lessons for the following month.

 8. Extra Notes:Please take your shoes off by the front door before entering. Lessons run back to back, so please drop off and pick up on time. Students and families are welcome to wait in the living room before or during their lesson time. If the front door is open, you can enter quietly without knocking.
